Fissure Sealants are used to restore grooves in the teeth before cavities have a chance to form!
All back teeth have grooves and fissures of varying depth on the biting surface. Some patients’ fissures are very deep and narrow therefore they collect food and plaque which promotes cavities to form.
A toothbrush bristle cannot get into these grooves because they are too fine. The solution is to clean the fissure and bond a tooth-coloured sealant into the grooves. This means minimised formation of cavities and cleaning is much easier.
