What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Over a few months the bone grows around it and holds it firmly. Does getting an implant hurt?
The area is numbed, so you shouldn’t feel pain during placement. It’s common to be sore and a little swollen for a few days afterwards.
How long does the process take?
Often several months from placement to the final crown, because the bone needs time to heal. We’ll give you a timeline at your consultation.
What are the risks?
As with any surgery: infection, bleeding, nerve injury causing numbness, sinus problems with upper implants, and an implant that doesn’t bond with the bone. We’ll go through the risks that apply to you.
How long do implants last?
With good care they can last many years, but like any dental work they can have problems, and some people need repairs or replacement parts later.
