What is children's dentistry?
Children’s dentistry is dental care tailored to how kids’ teeth and habits change as they grow. For babies and toddlers, that means advice on teething, cleaning and diet. We suggest a first visit when the first teeth appear, or by the first birthday. From around six to 12, adult teeth come through, and we watch for decay in the new molars, where fissure sealants can help. Teenagers can have new challenges, from sport injuries to crooked teeth. When orthodontic treatment is needed, we often refer in-house to Dr Tim Ng, who has a special interest in orthodontics. We keep visits positive, explain things in a way children understand, and show parents simple ways to look after teeth at home. healthdirect has a good guide to looking after your child’s teeth.

Frequently asked questions
When should my child first see a dentist?
When their first teeth appear, or by their first birthday. An early visit is mostly about getting used to the clinic and giving you tips.
Is my child eligible for the CDBS?
Children aged 0 to 17 may be eligible if they or their family get certain government payments, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A. Services Australia will send you a letter. You can also ask us when you book.
How can I help my nervous child?
Talk about the visit positively, avoid words like ‘hurt’ or ‘needle’, and bring a favourite toy. Let us know beforehand so we can take things slowly.
Do baby teeth really matter?
Yes. They help with eating and speech and hold space for adult teeth. Decay in baby teeth can cause pain and infection.
When should my child have an orthodontic check?
Bring it up at their regular check-up. We’ll let you know if an assessment with Dr Tim Ng is worthwhile.
