Endodontics - Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment may be required when the tooth’s blood vessels and nerves are infected and are threatening loss of the tooth.
The process involves removing all infection from the pulp of the tooth. The pulp (root of tooth) is cleaned and filled with a sealant to prevent any further disease. The treatment may take two or three visits to the Dentist; this is done to ensure the health of your original tooth rather than replacement.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are fixtures that cover the original tooth if it is damaged and cracked beyond repair. The tooth is firmly placed over the original to restore and build the strength of the remaining tooth.
If you have more than one tooth missing, bridging may be required to fill the area. Teeth rely on one another, so bridging will secure the other teeth from shifting out of place. A bridge is a false tooth known as a “pontic”, which is joined between two porcelain crowns to fill the area left by a missing tooth. The two crowns holding the “pontic” in place are fixed onto the existing teeth so the false tooth can be fitted.
Oral Surgery
If you tooth is cracked, broken or loose, it may be exposed to harmful bacteria which can cause pain, sensitivity and eventually cause the tooth to die. Tooth extractions may be required to prevent adjacent teeth from becoming infected.
Many people believe that teeth extractions are painful and extensive procedures; however, due to advances in modern dentistry, tooth extraction is quick and painless and you can be back at work, eating and speaking as normal, the very next day.
