Oral Surgery

Are you needing Oral Surgery?

There are many reasons oral surgery may be required, within our practice we perform oral surgery for the purposes of removing impacted or unerupted teeth and apicectomy.

Wisdom Teeth

Sometimes these teeth emerge from the gum line and the jaw is large enough to allow room for them, but most of the time, this is not the case. It is quite common for wisdom teeth to emerge from under the gum failing to be in proper alignment or failing to fully emerge through the gum line and become entrapped. Impacted and unerupted wisdom teeth can result in swelling, pain and infection of the gum tissue surrounding the area.

Impacted wisdom teeth can cause permanent damage to nearby teeth, gums, and bone and can sometimes lead to the formation of cysts or tumors that can destroy sections of the jaw. Our dentists recommend people with impacted wisdom teeth have them surgically removed.

It’s not just wisdom teeth that sometimes become impacted and need to be removed.

Apicectomy

An apicectomy is a surgical procedure that is performed to remove any infected and inflamed tissue. This surgery is completed by lifting a portion of tissue, removing infection and then closing the gum flap back over the area and sealed using sutures.
